Manhattan
Halloween Parade, New York City - October 31, 2005
Monthly
Statement:
October
was a harsh month weather-wise and New Yorker-wise. I have
been ignored on average by 80 people or more per polling.
However, I reached a new point in the project where I have
had more YES answers than NO's. This was on Halloween night
at the Parade where costumed intoxication and good clean fun
change "The Perfect Body".
Notable Story: In Union Square, where I was greeted rather
coldly, I had the chance encounter of bumping into a local
showman. I first noticed the man digging through a McDonalds
bag he found in a trashcan. I continued the polling while
he walked up and observed my procedure. Then tossing his arms
into the air demanded to know what was going on here. I explained
that I was asking people the yes-or-no question "Do I have
the Perfect Body?" He then raised his hand to silence me and
said that was all he needed and proceeded to circle me, stroking
his chin in deep contemplation. After his second trip around
me he said he had my answer and that I should be quiet and
listen. "Well, I must say yes, you do have the perfect body,
but don't let that go to your head", he said and walked off.
While this was going on, my photographer, Erin Bell, standing
by the bushes, overheard a guy sitting on a bench excitedly
proclaim to a friend next to him "Oh shit, Crazy Off!"
Process:
On the streets and in a variety of public places I will approach
people asking them the question, "Do I have the Perfect
Body?"
