Monthly
Statement:
December
2005
In preparation for the exhibition in Williamsburg, I printed
cards with the December 'make a wish' message on them. I organized
the printing over the net with a printer I thought I used
before (the name was the same). The day of the opening, when
I was preparing to pick up the cards from their new address
on 68th Street, I discovered, the printer was in Miami.
Since its good practice to contemplate what you want each
day, I plan to keep making and distributing wish cards.
Tis the Season to make Wishes
I have been encouraging friends and others to contemplate
events they would like to see take place in 2006. I ask that
they write at least one down and send me a candle so I can
burn it on the behalf of their wish. Please note that wishes
must be benevolent.
If you want to participate in this season's wish drive send
a white votive or tea lite to:
Barbara Nasto
209 First Street Apt 3R
Jersey City, NJ 07302.
Process:
Over the course of a year I will be burning candles and permitting
the wax to accumulate on a makeshift altar. The candles are
burned in remembrance of someone or with the intent of a prosperous
wish for oneself, others, or the world. The public is invited
(through viral email, post cards and internet postings) to
contribute candles with a wish or remembrance attached. In
addition to accumulating the wax as I burn the candles, I
will also be documenting what compelled people to contribute
to the project.
