Monthly
Statement:
September 2005
Each day I use the public transportation system I record at
least one minute of sound. So far, I've accumulated 30 tracks,
for a total of 53 minutes and 1 second of sound. I have people's
conversations, short snippets of subway musicians' performances,
street sounds at bus stops, and above all subway sounds, both
in the trains and on the platform.
September has been mainly an accumulation of sounds. During
October, while I continue my accumulation, I will experiment
with a short track which I plan to post on this site at the
end of month. The creation of this short track will allow
me to decide which sounds are more useful for my purposes
and therefore to direct my accumulation more and more towards
these specific sounds (without leaving others behind). During
the months of November and December I will start working on
the actual compositions that will make my piece.
Process:
I'm accumulating sounds from public transportation systems
in New York City (6 months) and Lima-Peru (6 months) with
a minidisc digital recorder.
