Monthly
Statement:
December
2005
Exhibiting the lists in the group show proved to be a turning
point in my project.
I received feedback from a new audience to two different forms.
First, I received feedback in the form of verbal statements,
which related directly to my personal lists. The lists were
a challenge for me to post because they are so directly personal.
This was a driving force behind the success of the lists as
an art piece for my self and the viewers. I feel I created
an intimate bond between myself, (the artist), and the viewers,
(the participates) through a universal format. This familiarity
will create a lasting memory of encounter.
I also received feedback from the audience in the form of
a list.
I gave the opportunity to people to write lists of their own.
I supplied paper and pens to write lists with at the event
and suggested a few topics to help people get started. People
easily became interested and expressed themselves creatively
the familiar format of the list. I collected lists ranging
from the topics of "Organs of the Body", and "A
List of Words I like".
Posting my lists helped me to realize which lists make more
of an impact on my thoughts. The lists that I am more invested
in personally are more important to me. Ones that express
growth, personal opinions, or list that I wrote with other
people in mind. Those are the same lists that I refer back
to repeatedly throughout out my day-to-day life when faced
with a challenge. Writing these pieces of information down
prevents me from falling into a faulty behavior pattern. I
am able to learn form my mistakes quicker by having my lists
to refer to.
I will continue writing lists focusing on the ones that make
more of an impact on my daily thoughts. I will also continue
to ask other people to write lists with me.
This month I have posted lists that I collected at the opening.
Process:
1. Save acquired papers, magazines, business cards, tickets,
instructions, directions, work sheets, junk mail, bills, pamphlets,
passes, maps, invitations, flyers, coupons, advertisements,
etc.
2. Paint over with a thin wash of white paint and let dry.
3. Join papers together in strips using clear tape.
4. Live my life.
5. Write lists on the paper strips about the thoughts of my
life and activities experienced.
6. Develop lists to portray a physical interpretation and
a symbolic narration of my daily thoughts and tasks.
