October 2005, Month 2

This month I have been thinking about where the collection of the barcodes will lead. Drawing, prints, or sculptures based on graphs, bar charts? What are the numbers telling me? What is the code?

Meanwhile, this month I consumed 1.71 times more than last month: from 75 barcodes in September to 128 in October. The piece is now 5-1/2 feet long.

I began the striping on the spine of the book. October is black. Silver marks the location where I include text documentation at the end of each month. I imagine the barcode chain exhibited on a ledge running along and around the gallery wall with a mirror on the wall, so the striping may be seen simultaneously..

Process: I plan to collect every UPC (Universal Product Code) barcode acquired through my activities of the day, each day for a year.  These products may be purchased by me or given to me.
