Statement:
March 2006
A grapefruit skin arrives to ripeness with a certain character
(“character is made by rising above one’s misfortunes”).
The meat is a paleish purpley pink, the skin yellow-a pink-flushed
green yellow, “flawed” with stains, scars, and
faint, greenish, bruisy looking patches of irregular shape,
resting under the surface.
3/06 Notes/Journal
I decided going forward to fill the whole studio, all the
walls with the yellow taxonomy only. I’m “going
for the big one”.
Its about volume.
Its about creating a real yellow fog, as strong a force as
entering a Richard Serra sculpture, yellow that fills space
dynamically, an enveloping yellow. Still a place where you
will get drawn to the individual items and note the pang of
the poignancy of their particularity, And the recontextualization
as you move from hub to hub. Its about maximizing the vastness
of the context.
Process:
I will collect yellow things which will be mostly litter and
other refuse of our urban environment, on walks. I will collect
them as I go about the normal business of my life.
