Monthly Statement:
July 2006
I began a triptych using all posters that I collected that
are black and red rather than black and white. These give
the impression of blood and fire and are kind of scary en
mass. The title of the piece is "more and more sinister"
and each pannel is approximately 3' x 4'. Because I have been
doing so well economically after being signed to the Marlborough
Gallery I was able to hire an assistant for the first
time in my life. His name is Rodney Quinones and was and is
a graffiti artist who bombed the subway trains back in the
day and continues to bomb the street today. I won't reveal
his tag as I wouldn't want him to be caught for his artistic
expression, but he's the perfect assistant for me due to his
experience and street savvy. I also finished the piece titled
"present untitled" which took me about 3 and a half
weeks to complete. The composition is very complicated and
the piece is 5' x 6' so it's a rather large piece. I used
posters that I collected from Naples, Italy and Venice, Italy
and the rest from NYC. I also included a picture of my wife
Makeda who was hanging out at the Harlem Collage shop one
day dressed up as a hardcore.
Next month is the end of the cycle...

Process:
I
will gather advertising posters from public spaces (as many
of a specific kind as possible) and create collages from them.
