Monthly Statement:
January 2006
This month I got a new studio on 133rd St and Fredrick Douglas
Blvd in Harlem. I set up and started an 8' x 8' collage this
week. The studio is great because it's a store front with
roll up doors and it came with a studio assistant. There is
a Chinese resturant 2 doors down and the son of the owner's
name is Wen Lee. He's 4 years old, doesn't speak a word of
English and has decided that he is my apprentice. I couldn't
get rid of him even if I wanted to, but he is super smart
and has a great disposition and has made himself a joy.
I finished the piece "Pimps Up, Hoes Down" made
from the Dennis Rodman posters and other posters from
Scores, which is a topless bar in Chelsea.
I also had a 8' x 8' collage called "Gamblers" in
a group exhibition at the Rush Arts gallery in Chelsea called
"God Complex, Images of Power". The exhibition is
up until March 25th and you can get more information about
the show at
http://www.rushartsgallery.org.
Look forward to a new 8' x 8' collage next month.
Best,
Michael Anderson

Process:
I
will gather advertising posters from public spaces (as many
of a specific kind as possible) and create collages from them.
