OBJECT # 3
DATE SENT: September 30, 2005
SENT TO: Joey McLaughlin
SENT VIA: US Postal Service
DESCRIPTION OF OBJECT: 8x8.5” b/w gelatin silver print, dry mounted onto 4 ply rag board. Stained and warped.

ORIGIN AND APPROXIMATE DATE OF POSSESSION OF OBJECT: A piece of photographic paper was accidentally fogged in a box. I developed it using normal techniques and found the accidental abstract image to be interesting. In the fall of 1976 I was preparing for an exhibition of my photographs at Hannibal Goodwin Gallery in Westwood, NJ. I decided to mount this image while I was mounting my more realistic prints.

MOST RECENT LOCATION OF OBJECT: Push-pinned to east wall of my studio, above large wooden desk.

RELATION OF OBJECT TO RECIPIENT: Joey and I were roommates from January 1, 1977 through May 31, 1977 at 707 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken, NJ. We had a large living room that was relatively bare, save a leatherette couch that we found in the apartment, and a floor lamp. I pinned this print on the plaster wall above what at one time was a fireplace. The print has always reminded me of our time living together.

RESPONSE OF RECIPIENT:

DATE OF RESPONSE:

Process: My plan is to de-accumulate objects I now own during the course of the exhibition year. I will photograph the selected object then send the object with a letter to a person who has some relationship to the object or whom I think might be interested in the object. The letter will discuss the project and tell the receiver they can keep the object, destroy it, give it away, recycle it or anything else they choose. I will ask them to document it in the place they now have it and send their image and/or written description back to me of what they did with it and where it is. I plan on de-accumulating an average of one object per week. The new images/descriptions will be placed in a plastic folder and exhibited along with a photograph of the object as it was in my possession.
